BOP Shear Test Database Joint Industry Project
A database used by JIP Member companies to enable sharing of shear ram performance test results among its members for use in regulatory-permitting and risk-assessment activities associated with well operations.
The goal of the JIP is to foster improved safety, performance, and operation of BOPs by establishing a cost-effective process of collecting, analyzing, and sharing BOP shear ram test results.
The objective is to populate and maintain an industry-wide database for BOP shearing performance data. Through this organized avenue, data can be shared between member companies with guaranteed consistency in the way tests are conducted and how data is collected and reported.
To collect high-quality shear ram performance test data from tests using the standard test protocol on BOPs in order to:
Support the ability to quantify hydraulic pressure requirements to shear tubulars and seal for specific well and BOP designs.
Create a centralized record of historical Shear Ram Performance data.
Provide increased statistical confidence in the ability of the BOP to shear pipe and seal the well and hence provide input to BOP performance assessments.
The database contains over 850 individual BOP shear tests populated by the JIP Members.
A full catalog of tests included in the database is available to JIP Members.
Members have access to a JIP SharePoint site for uploading or downloading reports, JIP information, and News.
The Database, managed by Stress Engineering Services, Inc., is seeking new member companies to strengthen and expand its database for the benefit of the entire industry. Contact Stress Engineering Services today to discover how your company can improve its safety and performance access to critical BOP shearing perform.
